This
family monument, erected in the dark hills above a northern harbor
in Washington, is a strange and wonderful place. On a sailing
trip to Canada with friends, Yvonne honored us by revealing this
favorite spot. Built by the town patriarch, each chair contains
the ashes of the deceased family member whose name is enscribed
on the stone back. The broken pillar has always been incomplete,
and there is an empty place at the table where the pillar is broken.
